To celebrate the 40th anniversary of manga artist Ai Yazawa’s debut, Uniqlo has a brand new collection featuring some of her iconic work.
The collection includes designs from four of her works: Neighborhood Story, which is about a young girl who dreams of becoming a fashion designer; Paradise Kiss, which follows a student turned model, who falls in with a bunch of fashionable classmates; I’m No Angel, a romance story about two student council members; and her best known work, Nana.
Nana is one of the bets-selling manga series of all time and is about two young women who decide to become roommates after they realize they share the same name. The manga follows one Nana’s music career and the other Nana’s pursuit of romance and focuses on the ups and downs of their friendship. The series kicked off in 2000 and technically it’s still ongoing, but it went on hiatus in 2009 after Yazawa experienced health issues.
The shirts for Neighborhood Story and Paradise Kiss are based on actual outfits worn by the characters in the manga, while the shirts for I’m No Angel and Nana feature new illustrations.
This is not the first time Uniqlo has given people opportunities to show their love for anime and video games, with past collections covering Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Capcom, and more.
But fans will have to wait a bit to get their Yazawa shirts: The collection will go on sale in July and will be available to be purchased on the Uniqlo website.
