Finding weed stems in Grounded 2 seems like a much bigger hassle than it actually is, thanks to some specific naming conventions and the survival game’s puzzle-like design. You’ve probably seen several weed stem candidates already without realizing it, just because the game doesn’t outright call the plant in question a weed.

Below, we explain where to find weed stems in Grounded 2 and what you need for the job.

The obvious choice for collecting weed stems is, of course, getting them from chopping down the stalks that Grounded 2 calls weeds — except it’s also the wrong choice. You need an upgrade for your Omni-Tool’s axe to chop weeds down, and at the point in the game where you first need weed stems, you’re not ready to start gathering those upgrade materials yet.

What you’re looking for instead is a dandelion, which is a weed, even though Grounded 2 just calls it a dandelion. These grow sporadically in the area around the snackbar, though you’ll have to peer through the dense grass canopy to spot the telltale puffs.

Thistles are technically weeds as well, but Grounded 2 won’t let you cut them down — not in its early access version anyway.

Once you find a dandelion stalk, chop it down with your Omni-Tool axe. It’s a slow process using just the standard axe, so make sure there aren’t any enemies nearby before you get started. The dandelion stalk fragments into six weed stems once you finish chopping, and like with grass planks, you’ll have to hoist them over your shoulder and carry them back to wherever you need them. You’ll drop the weed stems if you take damage while you hold them, so don’t forget to go back and pick them up if that happens.

It’s worth picking up the dandelion fuzz, too, since you can use these to glide if you fall or jump from high up.

If you place the blueprint for whatever you’re building on the ground, you can go ahead and slot in the weed stems you have to keep from having to carry them around. If you’re gathering weed stems to build a hatchery, one dandelion gives you enough weed stems to finish the job.
